Following the much-publicised IRA bomb damage, ASG
installed the new mechanical rigging systems in one of the most
unique theatres in the UK, housed in what was once Manchester
Stock Exchange, in conjunction with consultants Theatre Projects.
The main theatre module resembles a moon lander more than a performance
space, and is supported only from adjacent columns and not the
floor, making it ideal for theatre-in-the-round as most of the
audience is raised above the performers on circular balconies.
All of our works were specially designed to suit the project and
included winch systems for 'angel wings' used for lighting and
access, stainless steel hauling and support equipment for shaped
roof doors, raise and lower gear for the central lighting gantry,
also multi-directional rotating pulley blocks, rope sets and winch
sets for the secondary flexible studio space.
